If you didn't have to work for a living, what would you do?
I posed that question to some of my coworkers at lunch today. One of them jumped right back saying that he will teach tennis full time. But the other two people said that they had never thought about it. They couldn't even come up with an answer. I know that I would probably become a professional student and take courses in art, history, literature, basket weaving, pottery - all kinds of stuff. I will also travel extensively.
Do most people not think about such stuff?
Do most people plan to keep on living as they are living? Well, there is nothing wrong with being content with your life - but then these people are the ones that complain most about commute, Monday mornings, bosses, annoying coworkers and life in general.

If I didn't have to work for a living I would spend most of my time rescuing animals and we would all live on a giant country estate.
I haven't had a "real" job now for two years, it's fantastic. I've been doing home improvement projects, construction, gardening, cooking, writing. I spent a lot of time with my father before he passed away, and have been able to help my mom while she's adjusting to being a widow.
We bought a run-down piece of property about three hours away, we're calling it our "retirement fund". I'm learning all about construction, solar power, wiring, plumbing...even pouring concrete. I used to love to travel but I don't feel like I "need a vacation" like I used to when I was working like a crazy lady...good thing...since I don't have a paycheck there really isn't a vacation fund any more. ;)
Every day feels like a vacation, even though I'm often filthy dirty and completely exhausted at the end of it.
BTW..the picture you asked about on my blog is of Mt. Baker in Washington state and was taken in my front yard.
Shelly - wow!!! So nice that you are doing what you love. I also stayed home for two years after I had my second daughter, and even though I enjoyed it, there was always that thought that this is temporary and I will have to eventually look for a job. I am not sure if I would like construction, but I would love to run a plant nursery.
The quote on the side "I am only one, but still I am one..." Is one of my all time favourites...
I love this question too... I think I would do similar things to what I do now...sing, write, read...
but i'd spend a lot more time in nature...
Theres healing there.
Love and soft light to you, Maithri
I may go out and help those less fortunate.
But while helping I would want my own needs met (food, shelter), which is rather selfish. So I don't know the answer to this...!
Tough one!
I'll be thinking about it all day now.
xox
i was thinking the exact question last night and it turned out that i wanted to read and study and write for the rest of my life :)
i thought i'll learn many languages, musical instruments, many subject like archaelogy, history, sociology, education and do so many more things.
and oh yes, i'll travel to unknown or least traveled places of earth with my beloved :)
