slow situps

I always have these great intentions at bedtime of getting up at 5am and spending a power hour doing yoga and pranayam and meditation and what not. But every morning, without fail, the snooze button monster gets me. I keep hitting snooze until it is so late that all the time I have left is to do one downward dog (my yoga teacher says that if you have time for only one aasan, make it downward dog). Anyways, last night I moved the alarm clock to where my feet were. That way, I can't just slam it, I would have to sit up and hit it. Well, what do you know - I sat up and hit it for 48 minutes???? So when I finally got out of bed I was mad at myself - but then I thought - Every time I set up and laid back down, I got a 'sit up' in. So if the snooze button chimes every 7 minutes, and I did it for 48 minutes - hey not bad. At least I got some exercise in :) How many of you are snoozers out there?

my baby

My fragile bubble of happiness

It has been cold and gray lately, but hasn't brought my mood down as research might suggest. Anyways, I was taking a break from my books on tape and was listening to really upbeat music on my way to work (mauja hi mauja from jab we met - my new found favorite) - I listened to it like 4-5 times. I felt so energized that I forgot about how miserable it was out there. When I reached work I got out of my car smiling and humming ready to take on the day. As I reached the garage elevator this lady commented "Dreary morning isn't it?" I agreed and nodded assent. Now why did I do that? My morning was just fine and happy and now I am feeling miserable as well. As soon I reached the building, I skipped the elevator and took the lonely stairwell - where I sung out loudly in Hindi to elevate my mood back to previous high. I like to carry my own sunshine with me - thank you very much :) Does anyone else wrongly agree when someone says something miserable and they feel otherwise in...

That's childhood for you

It finally snowed here and all day long I glanced out the window thinking about the trek back home. Kept checking the traffic report online and dreading the slow traffic back home - oh man it is going to be horrible. Well, as expected, it took me almost two hours to get home, most of the time basically going 5 mph on beltway. Anyways, picked up the kids from mom's around 6. Her driveway is sloping down so I had to take baby steps all the way to my van. Once I got to the car I realized that both daughters didn't follow me - I see Meghana doing tap dancing on frozen driveway and before I knew what happened Dia threw a snowball. kids - I tell you - well - I yelled at them to get in the car and drove back home. Once I got to my cul-de-sac, Dia yells staaawwwp!!! - I skidded to a stop and they both dashed out of the car. They started running towards the house. Here I was trying to make it to the garage without getting a snowflake on me and here they are running and trying to find th...

unhappy meals

Good article by Michael Pollan - Unhappy Meals I like his recommendation for eating well - "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants" - the key here is figuring out what "food" really is. His criteria is that food is anything that if you were to show it to your great grandmother, she would recognize it as food - I guess that eliminates most of the stuff in my pantry :)
