Tapas

I think one of the biggest problem with eating out is the portion size - we get way too much food. And it is hard to keep track of it in a social setting when you are talking and laughing and putting stuff in your mouth without giving it much thought. A perfect solution would be to eat at a Tapas bar - if that is an option. We happened upon one when we were visiting Baltimore Inner Harbor on President's day. This place is called ' La Tasca '. The food was great and the best thing was the portion size - it was just the right amount for lunch time. I had Pollo al Ajillo (chicken breast cooked in white wine and garlic) - it was amazing. I also had ' Tradicional Sangria Tinta ' - it was sooooooo good - next time I am going for the pitcher. I have never tried cooking chicken with white wine - but after that meal I am definitely going to give it a try. Here are mom and dad waiting for their lunch :)

This should make Mannu homesick

We went to DC last week - it was a gorgeous day - I took lots of pictures - some of them actually came out ok. Mannu, don't these make you want to come back sooner?

Sisters

My sister was in a car accident yesterday. She got hit pretty hard, her head hit the window and the whole window shattered. Her SUV got badly damaged. She called me from the hospital. I got so scared - I started shaking uncontrollably. She claimed to be ok, but I had to see her to believe her. I hate to fall apart at work, but the tears won't stop - my baby sister was hurt. We live close enough to see each other several times a month and we talk a couple of times a week. But I never tell her that I love her or any such sappy stuff - she would probably think I am drunk or something. But when something like this happens - that's when it all comes rushing to you. It felt like part of me got hurt - I wanted to rush to her - I wanted to give her a hug and make all the hurts go away. Anyways, she is going to be ok and just has to live through few days of aches and pains. But Anju, if you are reading this - I love you and I can't thank the heavens enough that you are ok - just dri...

A poem by Tali Sorek

I found this beautiful poem somewhere ...... I had a box of colors. Shining, bright and bold. I had a box of colors, Some warm, some very cold. I had no red for the blood of wounds. I had no black for the orphans' grief. I had no white for dead faces and hands. I had no yellow for burning sands. But I had orange for the joy of life, And I had green for buds and nests. I had blue for bright, clear skies. I had pink for dreams and rest. I sat down and painted peace. A poem by Tali Sorek, written at age 11, Beersheba, Israel I just love the last line, I sat down and painted peace

slow situps

I always have these great intentions at bedtime of getting up at 5am and spending a power hour doing yoga and pranayam and meditation and what not. But every morning, without fail, the snooze button monster gets me. I keep hitting snooze until it is so late that all the time I have left is to do one downward dog (my yoga teacher says that if you have time for only one aasan, make it downward dog). Anyways, last night I moved the alarm clock to where my feet were. That way, I can't just slam it, I would have to sit up and hit it. Well, what do you know - I sat up and hit it for 48 minutes???? So when I finally got out of bed I was mad at myself - but then I thought - Every time I set up and laid back down, I got a 'sit up' in. So if the snooze button chimes every 7 minutes, and I did it for 48 minutes - hey not bad. At least I got some exercise in :) How many of you are snoozers out there?

my baby

My fragile bubble of happiness

It has been cold and gray lately, but hasn't brought my mood down as research might suggest. Anyways, I was taking a break from my books on tape and was listening to really upbeat music on my way to work (mauja hi mauja from jab we met - my new found favorite) - I listened to it like 4-5 times. I felt so energized that I forgot about how miserable it was out there. When I reached work I got out of my car smiling and humming ready to take on the day. As I reached the garage elevator this lady commented "Dreary morning isn't it?" I agreed and nodded assent. Now why did I do that? My morning was just fine and happy and now I am feeling miserable as well. As soon I reached the building, I skipped the elevator and took the lonely stairwell - where I sung out loudly in Hindi to elevate my mood back to previous high. I like to carry my own sunshine with me - thank you very much :) Does anyone else wrongly agree when someone says something miserable and they feel otherwise in...
